Sen. Bill Nelson discusses efforts to get fines levied against BP

United States Senator Bill Nelson continues to push for fines against BP dedicated to long-term Gulf Coast restoration. That's one of the things he was here to talk about at the Bay County Chamber of Commerce Wednesday afternoon.

The proposed bi-partisan senate bill- Restore Act 2011- is sponsored by the 10 U.S. Senators from the five Gulf Coast states. Nelson says it could be anywhere from about 5 billion dollars all the way up to 20 billion.

"If you take 80 percent of that and then send it back to the states to the coastal counties, so that they can use the funds for restoration of the environment, for restoration of the economy, and then a good part of it also goes into the long term research of the Gulf. Because there’s a lot of oil sloshing around out there," said Senator Nelson.
